Kongsberg Beam Technology announces that the European Patent Office has granted a patent for the company’s proton beam guiding system and method and related radiotherapy system.
The invention relates to a particle beam guiding system for receiving an incoming particle beam along an incoming trajectory and controlling an exit energy level and an exit trajectory of the particle beam. The invention also concerns radiotherapy and more specifically how to increase the effect of radiation with the goal of destroying DNA of cells in a cancer tumour with minimum damage inflicted on surrounding tissue.
The patent has been granted as EP 3765152B1 and covers the company’s proton beam guiding system, method and related radiotherapy system.
